Plumbers install, alter, and repair residential or industrial plumbing systems. They measure, cut, shape, and join pipes according to project specifications. They must also prevent and repair leaks. Plumbers work with many different pipe materials such as iron, steel, lead, copper, plastic, glass, or cement. Some plumbers specialize in self-contained systems, such as septic tanks.
