“I lost my job”!

LET GO.   LAID OFF.   DOWNSIZED.  TERMINATED.

These are the last words most of us ever expect to hear. Yet, with economic changes throughout the world, thousands of people in Ontario and throughout Canada have lost their jobs over the past few years. Excellent employees have been laid off because of these changes. Whether your company is downsizing, restructuring, moving or closing permanently, and for whatever reason, you or a family member may need help picking up the pieces and moving on. Perhaps you saw it coming. Even so, dealing with feelings of anger and shock are not uncommon and you are not alone.

Recognize that you are not alone and there are many resources within your reach to help you get back on track. Know that others who experience job loss go through the same reactions – just as you are.

  • DENIAL
  • BARGAINING
  • ANGER
  • DEPRESSION
  • ACCEPTANCE OR “GETTING ON WITH LIFE”

Being aware of these reactions, seeking support from family, thinking positive and staying physically active will help to reduce this roller coaster of emotions. Are you asking yourself…?

  • Where can I get financial support?
  • Where can I go for help?
  • How do I help my family cope?
  • Where are the jobs?
  • Why are resumes and cover letters so important?
  • Do I have the education and training I need to be competitive in the workforce?
  • How do I feel about starting my own business?

Am I starting each day with a PLAN? You don’t have to do it alone! Make your local community resources your FIRST resort – not your LAST.

Keep a daily active routine. ASK, ASK and ASK AGAIN. Never give up. Do your research. Make a plan. Accept help. You WILL succeed.
